Diversity
How do we ensure the diversity of the keynote speakers and the main speakers?
- We need a committee to decide on these questions.
- Of the total amount of speakers will be new, a certain percentage will be from Asia, a certain percentage will be from Japan - ensure the panels are not packed with white males from North America and Europe.
- No panel should be completely dominated by one region.
How do we ensure the diversity of the attendees?
- A scholarship committee needs to be formed that will deliberate on who will the group that will be.
- There should be more of a focus on Asia, AFrica and South America.
- Interesting projects should not be left out.
How do we ensure the diversity of the content?
- In all of our content proposals there must be a certain amount of thrust on certain issues.
- Previous speakers can nominate one or more speakers from their region or from another region.
- People who have never spoken at iSummit before.
- New fields that have not been explored at an iSummit - how you do this is that any call for proposals that goes out must encourage new fields - such as indigenous knowledge.
- Perhaps there is a percentage such as not more than 20% open education in terms of the total content.
- Language - people must be encouraged to set up sessions in any language that they want and this should be encouraged. They should also be encouraged to find ways of having this translated.
- Encourage opposing viewpoints - dissident views EVEN traditional copyright people.
How do we ensure that this event that this even is friendly to persons with disabilities?
- There should be an overriding sensitivity to people with disabilities.
- Whoever is handling the venue needs to make sure that these people are taken care of.
Facilitation
- We need someone to headhunt a head facilitator.
- We need people to assist the lead facilitator in finding other facilitators.
- We need facilitators from Japan and Japanese barcamp was identified as a good source.
Community
- We need someone to review the wiki content, from day two specifically, to make sure that all of their comments and opinions are on that wiki page, because we are going to be using that for a lot of other things.
- We need someone to write a summary of the goals and structure framewokr based on the wiki.
- We need someone to draw up selection criteria for the sessions in case we are not able to run all of the sessions.
- We need someone to create a webforum/wiki where people can submit session ideas.
- We need someone to send out the main email to the community for input.
- We need someone to promote this e-mail and request for input regionally.
- We need someone to decide on a mechanism and process to select sessions.
- We need someone to compile a list of open sessions - those are the afternoon things.
- We need someone to list create a list of tracks or themes and identify the track contact points.
- We need someone to develop preliminary program - which we hope to do by March.
- We need someone to decide on the keynote speakers, their availability and invite them.
- We need someone to pull together the final program 4 weeks before the event.
Travel and Scholarship
- We need someone to draft the scholarship process.
- We need someone to decide what categories are exempted from applying for scholarships and we need them - that might be facilitators, panellists, artist’s in residence etc.
- We need someone to decide who will be a decision making group for scholarships.
- We need someone someone to find out if there are going to be any visa difficulties for anyone.
- We need someone to find out if we can have a volunteer for transfers from the airport to the train station at the airport.
- We need someone to determine round numbers for international airfares round numbers average per continent.
- We need someone to determine round number for airfares inside Japan.
- We need someone to decide can we subsidize hotel for people traveling on their own steam.
- We need someone to determine a fixed hotel rate per night.
- We need someone to create registration/scholarship system to localize it into Japanese. We probably need a Japanese person to help with Japanese application.
- We need to determine if CLE can be done by CCI rather than icommons. (legal accreditation so that lawyers can be sent by their companies)
- We need someone to figure out a good system of ticket purchasing and reimbursement.
- A formal call for papers for researchers.
Sustainability
- We need people who are willing to fulfill the function of a curator i.e. people who will oversee processes that are going to run from the time of the summit to the next summit and maintain them.
- We need a lead curator.
- We need bloggers who will blog about these themes and work with the curators to develop the themes further
Just to clarify - the basic idea is to have a structure where we have a group themes that come out of a summit and they are developed throughout the course of a year so there is some kind of continuity and sustainability of ideas. For those of you familiar with the LCGC, we a thinking of a structure similar to that.
- We need a core set of themes or goals to drive this set of people. The idea is that these core goals or themes will keep these projects going and each of them will be an expression of these core goals or themes that are resultant from the summit.
- We need avenues to attract people who may have been outside of tehse processes - people who have not been involved in summit activities and who should be involved.
- We need to organize events that encourage sustainability in these processes. We need to develop the capacity to have more of these events.
- We need a voting system to help select the more popular projects throughout a year and identify projects which will be showcased in some or other forum. What we are thinking about here is a muti or digg style system.
- We need audio and video gear and operators to capture the summit.
- We need video and audio editors who will edit the material captured in the previous point and turn it into some kind of usable form.
- We need hosting space, whereever it is to store this content.
- We need developers and designers and work on an interface for this content.
And then...
- We need someone who will handle the management of the big communal space.
