What would you need or want to know about a resource before you could use/reuse it for teaching?

Goal of Activity

To understand more clearly the importance of metadata and descriptive labels for educational content and bring out new aspects of metadata and descriptors that lend to content evaluation for use/reuse.

Tasks

  • Choose one piece of content that your project has created or that has been created by another OER project.
  • Divide into small groups.
  • Within each group, brainstorm and create a list of the types of descriptive information to be displayed in search results that would make the item worth checking out online. Think about basic descriptors like grade level and language, but also use scenarios and experiences that might help both novice and experienced OER users engage with the content.
  • Compare the new descriptive terms and items in the larger group and discuss the process and findings.
